The Good Kind of Dorky

Fashion Friday

Okay ladies (and men), it's time to talk fashion. Recently, the buzz has been that colored jeans are making a comeback. I'm not sure how I feel about this. My first instinct was hell no. Back in the late 80s-early 90s I definitely rocked the colored jeans. I believe I had a pair in hunter green, light teal and pastel yellow. I may have even had a purple pair. My friends wore them too. My friend Heather had them in wild colors like red and magenta. Some young ladies even tight rolled them. Stick a scrunchie in your hair and you were set!

Fast forward to 2007. Ummmm....I think bringing back elements of the 80s and even the 90s (because hello the 90s were so long ago) is acceptable in small doses, like a type of shoe or necklace, for example. Are colored jeans just crossing the line though? With the right color jeans, a neutral top and subtle accessories, do you think you could make it work? Are you even willing to try? If Sex and the City were still on, you know Carrie and Samantha would wear them.

Will this trend just come and go or will they be here to stay for a while? I didn't love gaucho pants when they first came out, but now I think they are god's gift to fashion and I'm praying the trend stays around a little bit longer.

Colored jeans--could I be convinced? Would you hang out with me if I were wearing purple jeans? Let me know what you think about this trend!

What do you think--hot or not?

A little too tight? A little too bright?

They look kind of cute on Ashlee...

I'm not sure about the colored denim resurgence, although I did own powder blue and red once upon a time.

I also had a royal blue pair with matching silk shirt from the Limited Too in Sixth Grade. I wore it in my school picture.

I think Ashlee looks pretty cute. I'd be more inclined to embrace the trend with, say, a bright red denim pencil skirt or something.

I think it's an okay trend; although I can tell you that it's not going to stick around for too long.

However! It is another trend (much like the fateful skinny jean resurgence of '05.5) that heavily discriminates against the non-stick-figures. Meaning, if you've got some thighs or some butt (like most ladies do) the colored jean is MUY hard to pull off.

If you are a normal lady, and not a stick-figure and you want to wear this style, I'd suggest doing so ONLY when paired with a longer tunic-style top. And some killer heels. Then you'll totally rock it.

If you ARE a stick-figure type? Wear whatever the hell you want; it was all made for you. Have you not figured this out yet? Go forth, and make bold fashion choices :)

I'd wear colored jeans, in fact, I already do. I have some in an olive green color. Well, I guess they are more like cargo pants. Just as long as they are not of the "skinny jean" variety, I'd wear 'em.

Back in the day, I had not only a rusty red colored pair of jeans, but also the dreaded striped jeans! Ohh!!! It doesn't get any worse than that. Except maybe MC Hammer pants.

We called it "pegged" pants, not "tight rolled", at my school. Even cooler than pegging our pants was to wear two or more pairs of socks that alternated colors. And don't forget the cinch ring on your huge t-shirt! E-gawd! The horrors.

I agree with Elise. I'm NOT boobs on a stick so I will pass on the colored jeans trend. Unless that color is black.

You know what I love? Peep toe shoes.

I'm with laurel -- I wouldn't mind a colored denim skirt, but the jeans are a bit much for me.

When I was in spain a few years ago, the 80s were making a MAJOR comeback over there. I think I saw enough mullets and hideous fashions in that 6 weeks to put me off all things 80s for good.

I like the idea of a colored demin skirt...I think you might actually be able to keep it in your wardrobe for more than 2 days.

I give the colored jeans trend 6 months. Why waste your money on something that will be "Out" in less than a year?

i think i agree with laurel. a colored denim skirt could work but i'm not too sure about the colored jeans again.

I owned a red pair and a chocolate brown pair, in my heyday. Now? They may appear less heinous to me if they weren't those damn super skinny cut. Hello? Fashion designers? 99% of people CANNOT wear (or should not wear *shudder*) the Skinny Jean.

I'm with Ms. Sass - skirt OK; jeans not so much.

Love me a cute peep toe shoe, though. :)

On a side note, did you see that Heath and Michelle broke up?! Ack! It's almost as bad as Reese and Ryan!. :(

Found you on Elise's blog. Here's my seems the colored jean idea is horrible until you see the pics. The colored jeans of today are so much more provacative (low slung and uber-tight) and you're right, it doesn't help that the models are probably suffering from brain damage as they obviously haven't eaten in weeks. But alas, I'd like to pull it off.

Agh! Denim shirts?!?! I draw the line there.

NONONONONO, how have I missed this? I cannot get on board. It's just too Fresh Prince or Saved by the Bell for my taste :)

OMG what is wrong with our fashion world? Are we/they that lame that we/they can't come up w/NEW fashions? Do we/they HAVE to bring shit out from the past? All those people going to fashion school are getting ripped off b/c they can't come up w/their own shit. lol

I use to ROCK colored jeans in H.S.! Seriously. Now? Nevah. Some things you should never be seen with and left in the past, like like old boyfriends and colored jeans!

    Ummm. No.

The first picture you posted isn't that bad, but that second way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks!

Frankly, I don't think I ever had colored jeans.

I certainly have my reservations, but they've gotta be better than acid-wash jeans so perhaps they have a chance. Just not on me.

Um, I don't think I ever had colored jeans. But I did have jeans that has airbrushed things on them...

And please do not buy colored jeans.

I had green jeans in my senior year. In 7th grade I had pink jeans with flowers. If anyone ever sees me purchasing pink flowered jeans, please stop me. They weren't that cute on my 12 year old self. 33 year old self will not be reliving that one.
